How to check TSA wait times
Pick your airport above for the current estimate, today's hour-by-hour pattern and the quietest time to go. Before an early or busy-day flight, also check your airport's own website, since several large airports publish checkpoint waits, and TSA's MyTSA app.
When are TSA lines longest?
Across U.S. airports, security lines build from about 5 AM, peak from 7 to 9 AM, ease at midday and rise again from 4 to 6 PM. Friday, Sunday and Monday are the busiest days; Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday are usually the quietest. Holiday weekends shift every hour higher.
TSA screened 2,781,103 travelers nationwide on October 22, 3% above a typical Thursday. National volume is one of the inputs to every estimate on this page.
TSA PreCheck wait times
PreCheck lanes are usually much shorter than the standard line: TSA reports that the large majority of PreCheck travelers wait under 10 minutes. Lanes do not run at every checkpoint or every hour, so plan for the standard wait on very early or late flights. Is PreCheck worth it?
How early should you get to the airport?
Plan on 2 hours before a domestic flight and 3 hours before an international flight, more at peak hours or with a checked bag. Each airport page has a calculator that uses that day's security estimate. When should I leave for the airport?
